Major General Ibrahim Babatunde Alaya is the Director-General of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), where he leads the strategic development and expansion of Nigeria’s indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities.
A seasoned military engineer and senior officer of the Nigerian Army, Major General Alaya was commissioned into the Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (NAEME) Corps in 1997. Over the course of his distinguished career, he has held a range of command and technical appointments, including Commander of the Command Engineering Depot in Kaduna and Commander of 107 Division Equipment Support. In these roles, he played a key part in the refurbishment, maintenance, and operational readiness of critical military platforms.
Major General Alaya holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the United States Military Academy, West Point, and is a graduate of the Nigerian Defence Academy. He is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, reflecting his strong technical expertise and contributions to the field.
As Director-General of DICON, he is responsible for overseeing the production of arms and ammunition, as well as driving reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s defence industrial base. His leadership is central to advancing national self-reliance in defence production and fostering strategic partnerships to support the modernization of the Armed Forces.
